After four amazing nights staying at the holiday village in Ranua Resort, Lapland, we transferred a couple of miles up the road to spend our final night in Lapland in the Ranua Resort Arctic Fox glass igloos…
Even staying at the main resort in Ranua, we’d felt we were in the middle of the most serene and peaceful wilderness that we’ve ever visited, but having packed up our suitcases for our final night here, we were driven even further into the enormous forest to an even more secluded and peaceful location where a small collection of Arctic glass igloos line the shore of the frozen lake.

The Arctic Fox glass igloos are still part of Ranua Resort, but are a separate, smaller location with the glass igloos, a row of log cabins (set further back from the lake) and a small restaurant / reception building.
The glass igloos are situated right on the shore of the frozen lake that, on the previous days, we’d been snowmobiling, ice fishing and swimming in, but they’re in an extremely peaceful and secluded location which feels miles away from anyone else.
When I flew my drone up over the glass igloos resort I was amazed to see the immense size of the forest wilderness we were in – which stretched as far as the eye could see in all directions.
No wonder it feels so quiet and remote (see the first shot of the video embedded below).
The Ranua Resort glass igloos are modern, comfortable and very warm with a comfortable bed under the glass canopy which gives you a panoramic view of the sky and the lake all around you.
There’s a small kitchen area, a bathroom with separate shower and even your own sauna.

They are quite small, but extremely cosy and perfectly adequate for two people to stay comfortably in (some of the igloos are larger to accommodate small families).
After relaxing and exploring the area, we headed to the small on-site restaurant, which provided a dinner similar to that which we’d had at the main resort during the week.

The restaurant at the glass igloos resort felt a bit nicer than the main resort restaurant, just because it was a bit smaller and more modern – and the food and service were great.
We then spent the night under a completely clear sky, lit by a huge full moon that rose over the lake. The only thing missing this evening were the northern lights, which we’d have loved to have seen from the igloo.

We did see the northern lights in Lapland a few days earlier from our lodge at the main resort – but that involved having to leap out of bed, dress up in our full winter clothes and snow boots and head outside in the cold.
From the glass igloos, you could have just opened your eyes and seen the incredible lights display in the sky above you from your warm bed!

Frustratingly, the northern lights did appear the night after we’d left the glass igloos, but we’d had such a brilliant time here – both at the main Ranua Resort and the glass igloos resort, that we didn’t really care.
It was still a magical place to stay and feel close to the beautiful nature of the region, whilst being warm and comfortable too.
After a final delicious breakfast at the glass igloos resort, we were driven the hour or so back to the airport for our flight home.
Our only regret was not having longer – we didn’t want to leave and could happily have spent additional nights here.
The accommodation may be a little on the small side for an extended stay – and it seems most of the activities take place at the main Ranua Resort, so you probably wouldn’t want to base your entire Lapland holiday at the glass igloos, but for a night or two as part of a wider Lapland holiday itinerary, they made an amazing place to visit and stay.
